STONE LIFTING IN SAN SEBASTIAN

IGELDOKO HARRIA is a stone that weighs 134 kilos; Stone-lifters have to lift the stone as many times as possible in turns of five minutes.

Even if stone-lifters are used to lifting more than 134 kilos, this competition has a special difficulty. In fact, the irregular shape of Igeldoko stone makes the trial to be unique.

Stone-lifters do not have the chance to train with the stone, as it is not possible to train with the stone before the competition. On the other hand, during the test, dust and resins which are usually used in these competitions are forbidden. Furthermore, hands must be washed before the competition.

Skyrunning is very popular in the Basque Country and women’s world champion is Basque runner Oihana Kortazar. Our country holds championships every year. For example, Zegama SWS opener.

According to ISF (International Skyrunning Federation): Zegama-Aizkorri – a race as demanding as its pronunciation. This immensely successful race will see the world’s top skyrunners compete in Spain’s Basque Country on May 20.
