This news mentions two countries in our partnership:

Brussels, 10 February 2012 – Several Member States, including Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria and Belgium, may face serious teacher shortages in the future, according to a new report published by the European Commission. The report, entitled ‘Key Data on Education in Europe 2012‘, was presented to EU Education Ministers at their meeting in Brussels this morning. It shows that the number of graduates specialising in education is falling at a time when many current teachers are approaching retirement age. But it also highlights encouraging signs: funding for education is stable in most Member States and it underlines that higher education remains the best insurance policy against unemployment, with graduates more likely to find a job faster than non-graduates.

Our students took part in the JUVENES TRANSLATORES competition organized by the European Commission: there is just a winner per country, but two of our students were awarded a special mention:

Our Juvenes Translatores, translation contest, now in its 5th year, is here to help all of you who have a thirst to learn foreign languages.

In the long run, learning languages will bring us closer and help us understand each other’s cultures. And it will make it easier for you – the adults of tomorrow -study and work around Europe.

Juvenes Translatores also raises awareness about translation studies and the ever growing need for translatorsthroughout Europe.

Idoia

Iker has completed the first ascent of this fantastic, extreme line.

His own words: “The route is about 25 metres long. The first section is an overhang and constitutes some very physical climbing which gives way to the second, more vertical section.

Almost all the holds, in the very best Margalef style, are one- or two-finger holds.

The route could be divided into three parts. A first, very physical part, followed by a boulder section con one-finger holds which scarcely reach the first knuckle of the finger. There is no rest in these sections and the route turns into a battle to retain strength and stamina. The third section remains- a long slightly inclined slab section which leaves no room for error”
